OTS romper + my ‘instagram husband’

lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperWe’ve all seen the video a million times, and I think people have sent me the video at least TEN million times! You know the one: instagram husband. And yes, I will proudly say, I have the BEST instagram husband (who takes all of the photos you see on here)!lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperSeveral of you have asked me about who takes my pictures or if Michael already knew about photography pre-blog. So, I kind of want to share with y’all how Michael became part of Lauren Kay Sims, and what his role is now for the blog!lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperSO I started blogging almost 3 years ago now. When I first started, I would occasionally shoot with an AMAZING photographer in Dallas who I love – Lindsey Brittain! I would shoot a few looks with her maybe twice a month. But, needed more photos for every day life – like, getting a picture of my outfit before brunch, or a date night outfit. So, who is that wonderful person always there? Michael!

At first I felt SUPER annoying slash stupid for asking him to take my iPhone pictures. To be honest with you though, he never really gave me a hard time about it. He’s always been super supportive of the blog, and me making a career out of it. So, to start off..Michael would simply take a picture of my outfit before dinner on my iPhone.lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperAfter lots of iPhone snaps…we invested in our first good camera – the canon 70d (already had a canon 50mm lens to add to that)! Neither Michael nor I knew ANYTHING about photography before I started blogging (and we are still total newbs). Even though I loved shooting with professional photographers in Dallas…every now and then some last minute collaboration would come up, and I’d need pictures right that second. Or, Michael and I would be on a trip together and I’d need to shoot a few looks. So, needless to say, we both taught ourselves the basics of photography!lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperWe watched youtube videos, asked photographers questions, and just played around with the camera a TON. When Michael and I were still living in Dallas, I’d say I shot with a professional photographer about 60% of the time, and Michael 40%. (PS in addition to Lindsey, my other favorite Dallas photographers are Mary and Angie!). Now that we are in Colorado though, Michael does 100% of my pictures – both blog photos and instagram/iPhone photos! He takes the pics, and then I edit them in Lightroom afterwards. We also upgraded our camera to the Canon 5D mark iii and LOVE it.lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperThe blog is definitely teamwork between the two of us, and I’m so thankful! In addition to taking pictures, Michael also keeps track of all of my contracts and deadlines which is a HUGE help. He also lets me bounce ideas off of him and helps me come up with ideas for posts. Most importantly though, he supports and encourages me 100%. He’s super understanding when I need to work on ‘vacation’, or pull him away from dinner real quick to get an outfit shot with ‘perfect light’! When I start to feel down or discouraged with the blog or from a comment on instagram, he is always so encouraging and reminds me of who I am and where my true identity lies.lauren sims blue off the shoulder romperOutfit details: blue off the shoulder romper (ON SALE! also available here) | similar straw tote here and here | similar lace-up sandals here and here | white earrings

On another note, I brought this blue off the shoulder romper with me to Turks and Caicos and LOVED it! Of course right after I bought it, it went on sale lol. But, I wore this for dinner one night with heels, and also as a swimsuit cover up! AND it has pockets!

Hope this gives you guys some more insight into Lauren Kay Sims, and maybe gives you a few ideas on how to encourage your ‘instagram husband’ if you’re needing some extra help with the blog! Having Michael’s help and support means the absolute world to me.

This post is so cute. I love that he is so supportive of you. I have an instagram “mom”, and I always feel bad asking her to snap a pic of my outfit, so I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like it can be annoying. We’re lucky to have such helpful people in our lives 🙂

PS – the romper is awesome on you!

I love the authenticity of this post. It really goes to show that blogging is a job and that it can be stressful at times although the front end always looks glamorous.

I’ve heard a lot of wonderful things about Canon and perhaps one day i’ll switch away from Nikon too. Enjoy the rest of the week girl.

    Love and blessings,

Lol everyone who says the idea of Instagram husbands being a bad or selfish idea is wrong, in my opinion. Obviously their life goal isn’t to just take pictures of us!! But who else are you going to ask?

That’s awesome that he is supportive of taking pics. My husband definitely has become more supportive of taking pictures as he sees money start to roll in from my blog : )

    Love your posts always, Lauren!

I love this post, Lauren! I have my mom take my blogging photos and it is so much easier (and cheaper) than using a professional photographer- especially when I need something last minute! When you edit in lightroom, do you use any specific presets?! I LOVE the way you edit your photos!
