summer beauty favorites + self tanner!

lauren sims summer beauty favorites

Now that temperatures are warming up (at least, in most places!) I’ve been pulling out my summer beauty favorites and wanted to share a few of those products with y’all today (including my favorite self tanner that so many of y’all have asked about!) My summer beauty favorites I’m sharing with y’all today range from the best shimmer bronzer, to my favorite nude lipstick, and everything in between. So, let’s get started!

1. Kate Somerville moisturizer with SPF 50 anti-aging sunscreen

I used to think that the only time you needed SPF was when you’re going to lay out at the pool. But (in case y’all didn’t know already), it is SO important to wear SPF on your face anytime you are outside! As much as I LOVE the sun, it truly can be so damaging to your skin. I wear this Kate Somerville moisturizer under my makeup almost everyday in the summer. Or even if I’m not wearing makeup that day, I’ll put this moisturizer on every morning. It’s really light, not greasy, and makes my skin feel really soft!lauren sims summer beauty favorites

2. Kiehl’s butterstick lip treatment SPF 25

Speaking of SPF…have your lips ever gotten sunburned?! It is seriously THE WORST. I make sure anytime I go to the beach or pool (or, really, anytime I go outside), I have this lip balm on my lips! I love it not only for the SPF factor, but also…ever since we moved to Colorado my lips have been SO chapped! So, this lip balm has been a total lifesaver! The one pictured here does not have a tint, but I also have a few of the tinted ones and love them!

3. Favorite summer lipsticks

I do have a MAJOR obsession with lipsticks, but if I had to pick my two go-to summer colors…it would be ‘nude kate’ by charlotte tilbury, and ‘snob’ by mac. First of all, I’m obsessed with both of these brands of lipsticks. They are not drying at all and the color lasts a long time, without staining your lips! I love ‘nude kate’ for the perfect pinky/nude every day color. I wear this with jean shorts and a t-shirt, or even workout tights and a tank, if I’m running errands after the gym. It’s a gorgeous nude color with just the right amount of color!

I love the color ‘snob’ when I’m wanting a nice bright pink – either for a spring wedding, a fun sundress, or anytime I want some more color! I like this color pink because it’s bright and makes a statement, without being TOO over the top. It also has somewhat of blue undertones to the pink (as opposed to orange), which looks better with my skin!lauren sims summer beauty favorites

4. Bobbi Brown bronze shimmer brick

For those of you who have been following me for a while, I apologize if you’re sick of hearing me rave about this shimmer brick! But, this is possibly my favorite makeup product I own! There are alot of different ways you could wear this shimmer brick, but I sweep mine across my cheek bones, after I already applied blush to the apples of my cheeks. This shimmer brick gives you just the right amount of glow, without being glittery (not a fan of glitter!). I love this shimmer brick because it gives you that perfectly bronzed glow in one easy step. My mom and all of my sisters use/love this product as well!

5. Mario Badescu facial spray

I decided to give this facial spray a try after I heard SO many people rave about it (and for 7 bucks, I figured why not?!). Maybe the best $7 I’ve ever spent! It’s a refreshing, hydrating mist to use any time – when you get off the plane, when you first wake up in the morning, to refresh your makeup, etc. It’s formulated with fragrant herbal extracts and rosewater for a pleasant pick-me-up for dehydrated, tight and uncomfortable skin. I love it because it instantly makes you look and feel more refreshed and awake, and it’s super easy to throw in your purse and take anywhere with you!

6. St. Tropez self tan express

A while ago I tried out a St. Tropez self tanner that I liked alot, but felt like the results weren’t as quick or as noticeable as I wanted them to be. So I decided to try out the self tan express to see if the results would be any quicker. I was hesitant at first because the (large) bottle I got was $44, but y’all…this bottle has actually saved me SO much money! I literally never get spray tans any more because I love this self tanner SO much.

First of all, the results are basically INSTANT. Right when I put on this self tanner I can tell I have more color, but the color continues to develop over a period of 3 hours. It also lasts for days! I put this on maybe once a week.

Another thing I have about this self tanner is that you can customize it to fit your needs. Leave it on for one hour for a healthy glow, two hours leaves you with a golden bronze and three hours creates a dark tan. (I usually do 3!)

7. L’Occitane almond shower oil

This is a new product I added to my regiment about a month ago, and am completely hooked. First of all, I love the fresh almond smell of this shower oil. Second of all, it is insanely moisturizing and lives your skin feeling like satin, because it’s rich in almond oil and nourishing lipids! Like I said, my skin has been super dry since we moved to Colorado and this shower oil has helped a TON with dry skin. It’s perfect for summer too because after a day in the sun, your skin needs all the hydration and nourishing it can get!

Hi Lauren! Just found your blog recently and I LOVE it! You are such a great writer and I also feel like I found my style twin! : ) love your girly boho style!
I too just moved to Colorado. My husband and I moved here from North Carolina this past Fall for his job. It has done awful things to my skin. I’m SO dry! I love that you add tips on what has worked for you best here in CO. I’m willing to try anything to keep my skin healthy and happy! Going to go get the lip balm ASAP!
I know this is off topic and maybe a little forward but if you are ever in the Denver area let me know! I have had a hard time finding a good friend here. Missing the South and southern hospitality!

I have such fair skin, so I have been looking for a new sunscreen moisturizer. I just purchased the Kiehl’s lip balm and the Kate Somerville sunscreen from Nordstrom. Thank you!! xx

Hey! How do you apply the tanner? Do you use a mit? I’ve just decided to ditch the tanning bed and I’m a newbie to self tanner!

Hi Lauren! What sunscreen do you use on your body over the St. Tropez self tanner? I’m looking for one that doesn’t shorten the lifespan of the tan too much. Thanks so much!!

    Hi Lauren!

So after seeing multiple posts from you mentioning the Bobbi Brown bronze shimmer brick I finally purchased it! May I just say that it does not disappoint! It was really hard for me to find the right bronzer for my skin and this just did the trick. Just wanted to say thank you!
