As y’all know, Michael and I moved to Boulder about 5 months ago now (see my full post about that here). We are absolutely loving it and it’s been such a fun adventure for us! The quality of life in Boulder with being outdoors all the time has been a blast and we still can’t get over being able to see the mountains everyday. Personally I feel so much closer to the Lord when I get to be in His creation everyday.
In case you didn’t know this about me already…I am a huge planner. I like to dream about and plan for what’s coming next in pretty much every area of my life. As much as we truly love Boulder, I’ve noticed the longer we’re here, the harder it is for me to truly stay present in this season. We know we will for sure be in Boulder for two years while Michael finishes school…but I’ve been finding myself constantly wondering “then what?!” Will we move back to Dallas? Will we stay in Colorado? Will Michael get a job elsewhere in the U.S.?! SO many options!
This season of living in Boulder (even though it’s only been 5 months!) has been such a growing season already. The Lord has been teaching me and challenging me in so many new ways. One major thing He’s been teaching me is the importance of choosing to stay present.
When you’re constantly planning your life away or wondering about what’s next, you completely miss the season that you’re in, and the beauty that’s unfolding right in front of you. So, during this season of life where we’re living in Boulder, I feel like God’s really been challenging the ‘planner’ side of me. He’s teaching me to wake up each day with a grateful heart for that day. He’s helping me to stay focused on walking beau around our neighborhood, making new friends at the church we found, enjoying new restaurants we’ve found by our house.
If you don’t wake up each day with a thankful heart for that day, and an intentional focus to receive what the Lord has given you today with open hands and a grateful spirit, you will totally miss out on amazing things that are happening right in front of you, right in that present moment.
So, maybe you’re in a transition season too – moving to a new city, graduating college, ready for a new job, about to get married, etc. Change and transition is so exciting, but I want to encourage you to soak in every minute of this day – this day that you are engaged and not married yet, this day where you’re still at a job that maybe isn’t a dream job, or whatever your state might be. Because you will NEVER get this day back, or this season of life back, so let’s not plan or wish it away! You don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but you know that the Lord woke you up today, in your house, in your job, for a reason. So let’s be thankful for that and live this day to the fullest.
