happy Friday y’all! is it just me or is fall already FLYING by? but one great thing about the weeks going quickly is that I don’t have to wait long for another Friday’s in Fall post. I’m loving this series and hope y’all are too! For today’s Friday’s in Fall post I wanted to spotlight one of my favorite trends for this season: ponchos! I know, sometimes just that word can throw people off and you may think ‘how can I incorporate that into my wardrobe?’. But I seriously love it and have found so many cute, chic ponchos for y’all!

One thing I love about fall is how much layering you can do when it gets a little colder. It’s a fun way to make your wardrobe more versatile and you can get creative with how you put outfits together! Something as simple as a striped tee can be taken up a notch with a moto jacket, or a great denim jacket (like this one) can be thrown on over a t-shirt dress or your favorite flannel. I think the poncho/cape trend is seriously the best way for layering to look chic and effortless. Something about the poncho just looks so classic and a little bit more sophisticated than just throwing on a cardigan (but y’all know I love those too!).
I found this gray checked poncho recently and I seriously love it. Something about it just makes me feel more grown-up and put together. The material is great quality, so I know I’ll be able to get a lot of wear out of it. Another bonus of ponchos: they’re SO cozy! So on one hand I feel like I look nice enough for a fancy date night with Michael, but on the other hand, I also feel like I’m wrapped in a big soft blanket. Any outfit that can accomplish both looking put together and feeling comfortable is a major win in my book!

If you’re a little unsure of how to wear a poncho, I think it’s most important to think of it as the statement piece of an outfit. So, you don’t want to wear a super detailed or textured top and then try to make a poncho work over it. It will end up looking a little bulky and neither piece will get the effect you’re looking for. I think ponchos and capes work best over more basic pieces, like a cami (as I wore here), a long sleeve tee, or a simple sweater. That way the poncho is the focal point of your outfit and it really brings your look to the next level!
