The longer we live in Boulder, the more questions I get about how to dress for the cold weather and what some of my favorite jackets, boots, etc., are. So today I wanted to share a few favorites with y’all and also some winter gear that make for great gifts too! If you have a ski trip planned this season or just need some guidance for dressing for the cold, hopefully today’s post will be helpful for you!

I’ve always loved spending time outdoors and that has only increased (a lot!) since moving to Colorado. It’s definitely a huge part of the lifestyle here and we absolutely love it. Ever since having Shiloh, just getting outside for walks has been so refreshing and rejuvenating for me. But with it being December and living in Colorado, I’ve had to learn how to bundle up and stay warm. And honestly there’s been a learning curve. It’s hard to find good, warm jackets that don’t leave you feeling like a bulky marshmallow (seriously, it’s SO hard). Today I want to share a jacket I have been obsessed with and some other winter gear to help you enjoy the outdoors a little more this time of year! Plus, these can be great gift ideas for any skiers or outdoorsy people on your Christmas list!

Earlier this year I got this Patagonia parka and I have been loving it! It isn’t my everyday jacket, but it’s SO warm for those really cold days and nights here in Boulder. I love that it’s a little longer, so it literally keeps your whole body warm pretty much. Even though it’s a warm puffer coat, it doesn’t have a super bulky fit to it. It doesn’t feel overly heavy or constricting, too, which I love. It’s great for throwing on one leggings and a sweatshirt for a long walk, but also perfect for wearing over your date night outfit. So if you live in a colder climate or just haven’t invested in a great quality jacket, I seriously can’t recommend this Patagonia parka enough. It’s one of those jackets that will last you for years and will be such a good go-to on colder days.

I also got these fuzzy boots recently and they have been so perfect for the colder days! I love that you can easily dress them up or down, that they’re both cute and practical. My favorite part is that they are totally waterproof, so your feet are always dry and warm! They are so insanely comfortable too, so they’re good for days with lots of walking! If you’re looking for a good pair of winter boots, I would for sure look into these Sorel boots. Plus, the shearling detail is just so fun!

Over time I’ve become pretty pick about where I shop for my outerwear and other winter must-haves. I’ve been shopping at Backcountry for years now and I always find the best stuff there! They have such a great selection for men and women, and literally have everything you could need to enjoy the outdoors. Everything you get there is such incredible quality. I’ve also found so many great gifts there this year for friends and family, and let’s be real, for myself too. They have stuff for everyone and at every price point too! If anyone on your list is needing new winter gear or just looking to enjoy the outdoors a little more, you should for sure check out Backcountry. Plus you can get 15% if you use the code LAURENKS15 at checkout!

I know this time of year it can be a little harder to get outside and to enjoy walks/hikes, but it seriously makes the biggest difference for me when I get to do it. Over time I’ve definitely found that it is way more enjoyable when you have the right gear for it. And anytime Michael and I take Shiloh (and Beau) on a walk, I always feel so much more at peace + like myself afterwards. Hope this post helps you with your holiday shopping + encourages you to enjoy the outdoors a little more, even on the colder days!
