what I ask for at the hair salon

A little over a year ago, I said goodbye to my hair extensions and chopped my hair to the length I have now! Since then, I get questions constantly about what I ask for when I get my hair done. So, I thought it’d be helpful to dedicate a whole blog post to that so you’ll know exactly how I get my hair done!

I go to Salon 5014 in Dallas to get my hair cut and colored. I’ve seen the same two girls there for YEARS and don’t want to switch haha. Since we’re from Dallas, we still go back there every few months which is about how often I get my hair done (probably 3-4 times a year). Charleigh (@colorbycharleigh on instagram) does my color, and Ashley (@ashleywhair on instagram) does my cut. It’s honestly hard to share with y’all what I ask for because both of them are SO good that I really don’t have to ask for anything haha I’ll show them a few pics and that’s about it. BUT, I know what they do as far as cut and color, so I’ll share that with y’all today.

The color you are seeing in these photos is pretty close to my natural hair color. I naturally have dark brown hair…maybe not QUITE as dark as it is right now but really close. So, now when I get my hair colored it’s more maintenance…so all Charleigh does is put a tint on my base to keep the brown color looking dark and rich…and then she puts a toner on my highlights to keep them from looking brassy. Sometimes, she will weave in some lowlights as well to make the highlights stand out more / add more dimension. She probably only adds highlights to my hair maybe once a year. So, what I just described to you is the super easy maintenance for my color. But, if you’re starting from scratch and want to achieve this color, I would just tell your stylist that you want subtle, caramel babylights that aren’t too warm. [Babylights are different than highlights, because they don’t necessarily start at your root]. I like more highlights towards my ends and around my face (instead of all the way up by my roots). This also allows for easier maintenance. I also REALLY don’t like when my highlights look too warm or brassy so I’d tell them you like more beige-y tones for the highlights.

For the haircut, I always tell Ashley I just want a long textured messy bob. I have maybe one or two layers in my haircut but that it. My hair is currently just below my collarbone but recently I’ve actually been thinking about going shorter! So if you want a similar haircut to mine, all you have to do is tell your stylist you want a long textured bob! (I like to add ‘messy’ in there too haha).

In other news, can y’all get over this insanely cozy loungewear set I’m wearing today? I’ve shared it a few times on my stories but have legit been LIVING in it! I wear it around the house but it also totally works with sneakers when you’re running to the store or out getting errands done. Abercrombie seriously has the best sweatpants, loungewear pieces, or pj’s for such a good price!

More cozy pieces from Abercrombie I’m loving!
