what I'm listening to + reading + loving lately

I don’t know about you guys but I personally love reading other people’s posts or hearing other people talk about what books they are reading, music they are listening to, or other random things they are loving! I’m training for a marathon right now so I’ve been listening some new podcasts, and have also been trying to prioritize reading more. I have a few new favorites from what I’ve been reading / listening to, so I thought it’d be fun to just share some random things like that that I’ve been loving lately with you guys!

 

What I’ve been listening to

On my long runs, I LOVE listening to podcasts! I love music, but when you are out there pounding the pavement for 2hrs+…sometimes you need a little extra something to hold your attention or distract you from the repetitiveness of running. I’ve been loving listening to The Skinny Confidential podcast. I like it because it’s entertaining (Lauryn and her husband Michael are a little crass but also hilarious / very real life), but I also feel like I’m learning something. They interview influencers, business owners, writers, entrepreneurs, etc and I’ve learned so much and gotten a lot of ideas from hearing other people’s stories with their business! I’ve also picked up some beauty + health and wellness tips, and more. This has been awesome to have on my long runs.

I’ve also been loving the “Made for this” podcast by Jennie Allen. These episodes are shorter so I don’t really listen to them when I run. I listen to these when I’m driving to Denver or anytime I’m in the car longer than 15 minutes haha. I’ve learned a lot of helpful and wise insight about relationships and friendships – handling conflict, comparison, and more, through the lens of Scripture. Jennie Allen is so wise and I love how she can break down Scripture into a very real life, tangible yet encouraging way!

Lastly, I’ve only listened to two episodes so far but another faith-based podcast I’ve been enjoying is Glorious in the Mundane by Christy Nockels. Christy Nockels is an extremely gifted worship leader, so wise, and just has a beautiful way with words. This podcast really does help you to find joy and look for the Holy Spirit throughout your day – whether you’re taking kids to soccer practice or folding laundry. Like I mentioned I think Christy Nockels is just extremely wise and how she walks with the Lord has really inspired me to walk more closely with Jesus throughout my days.

What I’ve been reading

Like I said, I’ve been trying to make more time for reading lately. This is a really helpful way for me to “turn off” from work / social media and give my brain a rest from those things (and also learn about other really valuable topics I’m interested in!). Michael and I recently bought & started The Meaning of Marriage by Tim Keller. We have been saying for FAR too long that we need to read a book on marriage together, and then when we took our trip to Cabo we finally said “okay, we need to start, now!” I’m still in the first few chapters of this book but the premise of this book is on “facing the complexities of commitment with the wisdom of God.” So many married couples we know and respect have read this book and recommend it with every fiber of their being! I think it will be really challenging for me but also so helpful!

I also just bought and started the book How Not To Die by Michael Greger. A few of my friends who are way smarter than I am about health and wellness said this book changed their life – how they ate, how they felt, etc. I’m a little scared to read it because I am definitely not a vegetarian or vegan (I love meat lol) so I’m curious to learn the research behind plant-based diets and here the author (doctor’s) explanation behind all of that! It’s a pretty dense read so far – a lot of science and research, so I’m reading it slowly. But thus far it’s been super interesting and I’m excited to learn more! The premise of this book is basically Dr Greger explaining the scientific evidence behind the only diet that can prevent and reverse many of the causes of disease-related death.

What I’ve been loving

If you follow me on instagram, you’ve probably seen these Kendra Scott hoop earrings in 90% of my outfit posts haha. Honestly I am not much of a “hoop earring” type of girl. I don’t know why but I’ve always felt like they just weren’t “me”. I am OBSESSED with these Kendra Scott hoops though because they aren’t your typical hoop. They are more modern because of the shape, but still very classic and feminine. I’ve worn these with cocktail dresses, but also jeans and a tshirt. They are SUCH a great purchase and you’ll get tons of use out of them! I’m tempted to buy them in rose gold as well since I wear my gold ones all the time!

There are so many pieces from the Kendra Scott fall collection I’ve been loving and wearing almost daily. Y’all definitely need to check it out if you’ve been wanting some new [beautiful] jewelry to spruce up your fall wardrobe, or if you’re needing to buy a gift for a mom or girlfriend anytime soon!
