hydrafacial: what it is + why I'm obsessed

The photos you are seeing above are my face after a hydrafacial, without ANY makeup. Usually after a facial (if extractions are involved), your face is really red / not so pretty for at least a few hours. My face does have a few red spots from extractions but overall…my face is so insanely dewy, glowy, and soft after I get a hydrafacial at Boulder Plastic Surgery. I started getting hydrafacials here about 2 months ago and they have done WONDERS for my skin. I am hooked and plan on continuing to get them once a month going forward. Several of you guys have DM’d me recently saying “your skin is GLOWING” and I attribute alot of that to hydrafacials (+ the skincare products I use, which absorb deeper into my skin thanks to hydrafacials. More on that in a sec). Today I want to share all about hydrafacials with you guys – what they are, why I am addicted to them, and why everyone should be getting them regularly! I also want to explain how not all hydrafacials are created equal. I’ve gotten hydrafacials at Boulder Plastic Surgery which are life-changing…and I’ve gotten hydrafacials at other spas that seemed to do nothing for my skin. So I asked my amazing esthetician at BPS (Lindsey!) a list of questions about hydrafacials so you guys can learn ALL about them today!

First, what is a hydrafacial?

A hydrafacial is “medical-grade hydradermabrasion device that carries out a patented three-part regimen — cleansing, exfoliating, and then infusing skin with intensive serums.” (Sameer Bashey). So this is a gentler approach than stand dermabrasions you are probably familiar with because a hydrafacial vacuums out pores while simultaneously pushing in potent actives, which moisturize, brighten, plump, and protect your skin! HEAVEN!

My interview with the esthetician

Here is how the team of estheticians at BPS explained a hydrafacial:

Hydrafacial is for all skin types and it is a 3-step process:

  1. Cleanse & exfoliate – helps uncover a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation
  2. Extract & hydrate – removes debris from pores + nourishes the skin with intensive hydration
  3. Fuse & protect – saturates the skin’s surface with antioxidants and peptides & maximizes glowy skin!

How often can / should you get a hydrafacial?

“Hydrafacial treatments can be performed at 4 to 6 week intervals.”

Can pregnant or nursing mommas get a hydrafacial?

Yes! For pregnant or nursing mommas, the esthetician will omit the gentle peel step in the hydrafacial. Instead of the peel, they can add booster serums such as peptides for plumping fine lines or brightening for spot correction! Instead of a peel, they can also do dermaplaning, which is what I’ve had done and it is AMAZING. Makes your skin SO smooth, gets off all your dead skin cells and “peach fuzz” on your face, and makes your makeup go on so smooth + helps your skincare products absorb deeper into your skin!

What makes hydrafacials at BPS so amazing?

(Like I mentioned, I had one done elsewhere that I wasn’t impressed with).

“Our estheticians @ BPS & IV Seasons Skincare are highly educated in dealing with all skin types. They evaluate each person’s skin and assess what treatment or treatments are best for their skin.”

Who are hydrafacials good for? Who should get them?

“All skin types and age ranges from teen acne to more mature, delicate, dry skin.”

Around how much does a hydrafacial cost?

$180

To sum it up

Like I said, I’ve seen a tremendous difference in my skin since I started getting hydrafacials at BPS. The products I use in my skincare routine penetrate my skin deeper, which results in smoother, more hydrated and glowy skin. I’ve noticed a decrease in fine lines and more even texture overall! If you live in the Boulder or Denver area, I cannot recommend this place enough – for any of your skincare needs! If you don’t live in the area, see if a medical spa near you offers hydrafacials. Y’all will LOVE them and your skin will thank you!

Let me know if you guys have any more questions in the comments below and I’ll try & answer all of them!
