Being from Dallas, I can definitely say moving to a mountain town with a legit winter was a challenge at first. I never really knew how to effectively dress for cooler days without looking like a bulky marshmallow. I can now confidently say the after a few years in Boulder, I feel like I have finally mastered the art of layering + dressing for the winter. Since I know a lot of y’all are about to experience some temperature drops or maybe have ski trips coming up, I thought it would be fun today to share some of my cozy winter essentials! Hopefully today’s post helps give you some inspo for how to dress practically AND cute for the colder days!

Okay so let’s start with the obvious one: a good, warm coat. When I lived in Dallas, I had plenty of cute coats but not very many that actually kept me warm or dry. And while I know Dallas isn’t known for their winters, there are still some super cold days in the winter! So when I moved to Colorado, I definitely had to research jackets and invest in something that would actually keep me warm. I feel like so many jackets either accomplish looking good OR feeling good/warm, but it’s really tough to find one that truly does both of those things. Well, that is why I absolutely love this long hooded jacket from Backcountry. So from a practical standpoint, the longer length + sherpa-fleece lining definitely keep you nice and toasty no matter what the temperatures. I will say it isn’t like a SUPER intense winter coat, meaning it’s not overly bulky and totally works in a more mild winter climate too. But on a less practical note, the fit + cut make it really flattering and sleek! I love the look of it so much. I went with a classic black, but the white + slate green options are so adorable too. Also worth noting – this jacket is under $200, which is a great deal for such a quality coat. I totally understand not wanting to blow the bank on a winter coat if you live in a more mild climate. This one is a reasonable price and it will definitely hold up well over the years.

When it comes to winter, I’m also such a huge fan of layering. Any time a friend or family member is visiting us and needs advice on how to dress for the cold, layering is hands down my number one piece of advice! On some days in Colorado the temperatures can be all over the place, so it’s nice to be able to add and remove layers as needed. This fleece pullover is a must-have in my book. It’s so versatile and you can wear it for just about anything. I love how it looks with leggings for a more casual athleisure look, but it’s also adorable with jeans and booties! The blended fleece fabric also makes this pullover insanely soft. When I tried it on, I basically instantly knew I would want to live in it haha. I definitely think comfy, warm pullovers like this are an essential for winter. They’re the perfect extra layer and they work really well under jackets. I also think this pullover is such a great gift idea! I firmly believe you can never go wrong in gifting someone Patagonia haha.

I shared these Sorel boots a few weeks ago on Instagram and y’all LOVED them! I’m seriously obsessed and it made me so happy to see y’all felt the same way. So not only are these boots adorable, but they feel amazing on your feet. They keep you feet warm and they’re still really comfortable and lightweight. I am obsessed with the gorgeous camel color and the faux fur trim at the top. These boots are also waterproof, so you can stay dry and warm even when walking through the snow. I found these to run true to size, too. They’re the perfect go-to winter boot on days when you need to be warm, want to wear flats, but still want a cute boot to complete your look.
