10 year anniversary trip recap

Shop

michael and i celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary on march 28th! and decided to go all out for our anniversary trip and stay at a resort that’s been on my bucket list ever since it opened a few years ago! i wasn’t planning on doing a blog post about our trip (i didn’t partner with them! we just paid for the trip the old fashioned way lol) but i got so many DM’s asking about where we stayed and what we thought…so just wanted to do a quick review of our trip for those who asked!

the resort

we stayed at four seasons tamarindo in mexico for four nights! the resort is relatively new (i think it just opened maybe 2 years ago?), and it is absolutely stunning!

this picture above was taken on the balcony of our room! we had a cliffside ocean view suite and it was SO nice. we had our own little infinity pool, hammock overlooking the ocean, and an outdoor shower! the room was super spacious, modern, elegant, and cozy!

we flew into the manzanillo airport and then had about an hour drive to the resort! the airport was tiny which was nice, because you had no wait going through customs. but since that airport is so small, there aren’t a ton of flight options! so the days we chose to arrive and leave were somewhat limited. you can also fly into puerto vallarta i believe but then you’d have about a 2.5hr drive to the resort.

we got a private transfer from the airport to the resort and the process was seamless!

the food

the resort is not all-inclusive. there are 3 restaurants on property + you can order room service or lunch by the pool. the breakfast had a buffet option which we did every single day haha and it was delicious! probably my favorite meal each day!

for lunch, we loved their ‘nacho’ restaurant for tacos…and also just ordering lunch by the pool! we got ceviche everyday and then either tacos or quesadillas to go with it. the food is not cheap (to be expected, at a four seasons resort in mexico!) but to be honest it wasn’t as astronomical at some of the other luxury resorts we’ve stayed at in mexico. same with the drink prices – they were expensive but not as expensive as they were at las ventanas or other 5 star resorts we’ve stayed at. and everything we had was really good!

i think because of where this resort is located…the food was definitely more unique / adventurous / different than what we are used to. everything we had was good but to be honest, the food here wasn’t necessarily our favorite (comparing to other mexico resorts we’ve stayed at). i am definitely not complaining! the food was great and we really enjoyed it! just being honest and saying, both michael and i said it wasn’t necessarily our favorite. but it might just be our taste preferences!

for dinner, there were only two restaurant options on property. we really liked sal, and we loved our waiter there (eric)! the other restaurant on property we ate at one time for dinner and didn’t love it so we didn’t end up going back. but sal was really good! definitely get the shrimp dumplings as an appetizer!

the service

the service + staff at four seasons tamarindo was impeccable. everyone was so kind and helpful and really went above and beyond to make our trip special and to make us feel taken care of!

on our second to last night at the resort, the staff surprised us with an anniversary celebration. they drove us in a golf cart to a beautiful place on the golf course, top of a cliff, overlooking the ocean. they had a bottle of champagne for us, a charcuterie board, music…it was so special and so romantic, and so thoughtful!

the grounds

the grounds of this hotel are absolutely beautiful. you’re basically on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. there are 4 pools i believe – 1 that’s adults only, the rest are kid-friendly. the infinity pools all overlook the ocean, the rooms feel like you’re somewhat in the jungle. you can walk around the resort OR there are also golf carts that can take you where you need to go! our room was pretty close to the main lobby / restaurants / pools so we didn’t really need to use golf carts but if you were staying in one of the rooms further away, then the golf carts would be helpful.

we also used the gym most mornings which was really nice – spacious, clean, and good equipment!

we walked on the beach everyday which was so pretty. the resort is kind of tucked into a cove so it felt very private and quiet. it’s not a huge beach so the walks were short, but still beautiful.

michael went to the spa twice to use the sauna / steam room / etc and he said it was a really nice spa!

overall review

overall, four seasons tamarindo was BEAUTIFUL, and in such a stunning part of mexico. the staff was all so helpful and kind, the service was incredible and our room was incredible. it felt super lux and we felt very taken care of! we’re so thankful we got to do this trip for our 10 year anniversary! it was the rest + relaxation + connection we were really needing. if we were to splurge again on another trip to mexico, i don’t know that fs tamarindo would be our first choice…BUT – if we hadn’t stayed at other places that we really loved (like las ventanas or one&only), then i definitely think we would go back here! but, if i were comparing it to other luxury resorts then i wouldn’t necessarily rank it as our #1 choice if that makes sense. i think for the amount of $$ this resort is, it was just kind of missing some of the WOW factor that these other 5-star resorts have give us (the butler service, the 5-star food, + a few other things like that).

all that to say though if you are contemplating a trip here, i definitely think it’s worth it and that you won’t be disappointed! it really is so beautiful and so relaxing.

let me know if i missed anything or if you have any other questions about the resort! i’d be happy to answer any questions you might have!
