Valentine’s Day. The truth of the matter is – most people either love it or hate it and often times this feeling depends on your relationship status. I have always been one of those girls though that absolutely loves Valentine’s Day, despite whether I was single, dating, or married because I think it’s about so much more than that.
I realize February 14th is just a holiday and there might not be any super deep meaning behind that one day. I realize restaurants will up their prices and flower companies will probably try and rip you off. However, in spite of those things, Valentine’s Day is still one of my favorite holidays.
First of all, I love the fact that during almost the entire month of February, there seems to be chocolate and hearts and flowers and the color pink everywhere. How can you not love that?! Any excuse for pink. Second of all, I love that really great brands (like ILY couture) come out with adorable Valentine’s Day collections – with great pieces that can be worn throughout the year. (Just in general, ILY make the SOFTEST apparel that you can live in, day in and day out. See a previous post I did about them here) Here are some of my favorite V-day pieces from from ILY:
Mostly why I love Valentine’s Day though – it’s an entire day to celebrate love, with flowers and chocolate and cards and date nights and anything else you can think of to celebrate the greatest of all things! Trust me – I’ve had several Valentine’s Days sans-boyfriend, but that doesn’t change the fact that love is more than worth celebrating.
If you are single – throw a Galentine’s Day party for your best friends and let them know how thankful you are for their friendship! Or snail mail letters to people in your life who you truly love and believe that that love and friendship is worth celebrating! Or even just take the day to thank God that you are loved by Him. No matter who you are, where you live, what you’ve done or what you believe…you are so perfectly and intimately loved by Him and that my friends is worth celebrating.
If you’re married/dating – how wonderful is it to have an excuse to bake for your man or get him that watch he’s been eyeing?! To dress up and go to a romantic dinner and have great conversation. To intentionally and creatively let him know how thankful you are for ya’lls relationship, and that you believe your love is a beautiful gift.
I will actually be in NYC for Fashion Week this Valentine’s Day and am so sad I won’t get to be with Michael on that day – so we’re celebrating on the 16th! What are your plan’s for Valentine’s Day? I encourage you – no matter what your relationship status us – to celebrate love on this day, and to be thankful for your loved ones, and for the fact that you are loved.
