Baby Sims is a GIRL!!! And we could not be more excited! Obviously we would have been thrilled no matter what the baby’s sex was, but ever since we knew we were pregnant…I just had this hunch it was a girl. Which is surprising because most people (friends, family, and even you guys!) were guessing boy! (I gotta say – most of the old wives’ tales that try to predict gender were wrong for me haha. Other than the Chinese Lunar calendar LOL).
So I’m almost 18 weeks pregnant right now, and we did the blood test at 10 weeks to find out baby’s gender! (Which, still blows my mind that they can find out that early). The results took about a week or 10 days to come in, which practically felt like an eternity! We didn’t want to do a “gender reveal” party necessarily, but still wanted to find out in fun way other than a phone call from the doctor saying “it’s a girl”.
We asked the nurse who called us with the results if she would write the gender down in an envelope, and we would come pick it up. So, we picked up the envelope from the hospital, took it to a local bakery here in Boulder, and asked them if they would make two cupcakes – either with pink or blue filling in the middle depending on what the envelope said! Then, Michael and I ate the cupcakes together that night and it was the most exciting moment to bite into it and see that pink filling! (I will share a video at the end of this post!)
Hats off to all of you momma’s and daddy’s who can wait until the baby is born to to find out the gender! I couldn’t even wait until the normal 20 week mark haha. There’s something that makes the whole pregnancy thing feel so much more real knowing now that she’s a girl. I love being able to pray for my baby girl or say “she” or “her” when I pray for and talk about her! It really does make me feel so much more connected to her!

On an unrelated note…getting balloons that spelled out “GIRL” for our gender reveal post seemed like a great idea at the time. Until we got outside and any hint of a breeze would get everything out of order haha and lead to a particular husband getting pretty frustrated (#reallife). SO…just for future reference – if you also want to do gender reveal pics with balloons, just get a solid color LOL don’t get letters unless you are shooting inside!
We created this little video to send to our families when we found out the gender! Since they are all in Texas we wanted to tell them in a fun way other than just a “ITS A GIRL” text message haha. I thought it might be fun to share with y’all as well! (Sorry for the poor quality! We made the video in two seconds on my phone!)
Again, thank y’all so much for following along on this amazing pregnancy journey with me – for sharing in my excitement, sharing your tips and tricks, and all of your encouragement along the way. We can’t wait to meet baby girl Sims here in about 5 months!
