I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, or if it’s just a blogger thing haha…but I feel like every year around middle of January, everyone starts complaining about winter and longing for spring. I totally get it – especially if you live somewhere like miserably cold – spring does sound so nice right now! Recently though I’ve noticed this tendency of mine – always wishing away the current season I’m in and wanting the next thing. Before I was pregnant, I couldn’t wait to get pregnant. Once I was pregnant, I couldn’t WAIT for the baby to be born. Right now, I find myself constantly wondering where we’re going to live 5 years from now or if we’ll stay in Colorado forever or just constantly wanting to know WHAT’S NEXT.
On instagram right now I feel like I’m seeing all of these fun spring posts – swimwear and beach trips. Right now in Colorado it’s still pretty cold and every bit of winter still. Instead of complaining about the cold though or just wishing for spring…I’m learning to fully appreciate the season that I’m in. When you shift your mindset to embracing the season you’re in, it really does open up your eyes to the beauty all around you. It makes me appreciate a beautiful snowfall, staying cozy in warm layers by a fire. Instead of wishing away the season you’re in…try to fully live in the season you’re in and find the beauty all around you – in both the physical sense and literal. I’ll explain.
If you are in a season of life where you really want to get pregnant, but maybe your husband isn’t on board yet or the timing just isn’t right…instead of focusing on what you don’t have, shift your mindset to fully embrace this season of life you and your husband are in, right now when it’s just the two of you! Enjoy every second of being able to go on a nice date night without hiring a babysitter, or taking impromptu trips, or having a lazy Saturday where you can stay in bed all day! All of these things are aspects of your marriage that will drastically change once you’re in your “next season”. So, embrace those special moments now while you can, instead of just constantly wanting the next thing.
I’ve been embracing this beautiful winter season in Boulder by staying warm in some amazing activewear pieces from Backcountry. I’ve still been loving going for walks with Shiloh, hitting the slopes [if we have a babysitter!], or going for a hike. Having the right gear for these winter activities is crucial in order to be in the cold and still enjoy it! I’ve been LOVING this Backcountry insulated jacket for any outdoor winter activity! I love that it’s not bulky at all and looks pretty thin, but still amazingly warm! The jacket has stretch panels on it which means you can still be super mobile – great for hiking or any other winter outdoor activity. The jacket has synthetic insulation meaning it will keep you super warm even on the coldest days!
I’ve been shopping at Backcountry for years now and even more so since moving to Colorado. They’ve become such a favorite because not only is the quality incredible, but I love that so much of their stuff works well for everyday + activewear. It’s all so functional and versatile, and they have stuff for the whole fam! I’m so excited because they’ve given an exclusive code for my sweet followers: right now y’all can get 15% off your purchase with code LAURENKS15. Plus, right now Backcountry is having their semi-annual sale so it’s the perfect time to shop! The details of the sale are below:
