last year for christmas, michael and i gifted each other a sauna after YEARS of wanting one + doing lots of research. and it is hands down one of our favorite purchases we have EVER made. one or both of us uses it daily and it’s been a game changer for our sleep, wellness routine, and overall health.
anytime i post stories about the sauna i get TONS of DM’s asking about which one we got and what my review is. so i wanted to dedicate today’s blog post to those questions, and share a detailed review of our clearlight sauna!
also just to clarify – this post is not sponsored in any way! we bought this sauna ourselves and clearlight is not paying me a dime lol.
i won’t get into all of the health benefits of saunas in this blog post but there is SO much science + evidence about the incredible health benefits you get from sauna. just a few of the benefits – improved heart health, reduce inflammation, soothe sore muscles, relaxation, sleep, immunity, and so much more. i recommend listening to the episodes huberman lab has done on it if you are interested in learning about all the health benefits of doing the sauna regularly (both physical and mental benefits).
after doing a lot of research we found there were two main options for an in-home sauna – a regular sauna or infrared. we went with infrared because of the added health benefits you get from infrared heat. the below is from an article mind body green did on infrared sauna vs traditional, just sharing some of the added health benefits of infrared:
research has linked infrared saunas with the following health benefits:
- Faster muscle recovery after exercise
- Improved cardiovascular health
- Could help ease chronic pain
- Improved mood
- Better sleep quality
since we know we wanted an infrared sauna we narrowed it down to two: higher dose or clearlight. honestly both options are SO similar and from what we researched it seems like you can’t go wrong with either one. we just felt like clearlight was kind of the OG in the infrared sauna game and super trustworthy + dependable when it came to infrared saunas. clearlight really is the leader and innovator in the infrared sauna industry for over 20 years now so we knew we could trust their product. i also liked how theirs looked more. so we went with clearlight!
we got the 2 person full spectrum sauna and have been SO happy with it. i would’ve loved a larger size but we didn’t really have the space for it in our home gym. so this one can comfortably fit me and michael at the same time, but it’s not really big enough to lay down in.
another reason we chose clearlight is because they use true wave far infrared heaters. i won’t get into all the nitty gritty science behind why this is better but, here’s a little snippet from their website i thought was interesting:
With the high far infrared output (emissivity) of our heaters, you not only get the highest quality infrared heat, but you get a lot of it, and right where you want it – your body core. We position our heaters so that they surround your body concentrating the heat on your body core.
our sauna gets up to around 142 degrees (that’s the hottest i’ve seen it get up to) and it feels HOT. but not like SO hot that you think you’re gonna die in there haha. we also got the ‘halo therapy’ as an upgrade to make the sauna into a healing salt cave and i LOVE using this with the sauna.
you guys know how passionate i feel about my wellness routine and the sauna has been both mine and michael’s #1, non-negotiable, biggest game changer in our wellness routine. we typically use it at night after putting the girls to bed, for about 20 minutes. and then rinse off in the shower and get in bed. but i’ll also use before or after a workout sometimes. or sometimes as a part of my morning routine and i’ll turn on a meditation. it is SO relaxing and feels incredible to just detox in there! i love knowing that the sauna is not only providing me with immediate benefits like better sleep and reduced inflammation but there are studies that show it can also help with brain health, help to prevent diseases like alzheimers, and so much more.

the sauna was definitely an investment and we are SO fortunate to have one in our home. and for us it was worth EVERY penny knowing that we are really investing in our health and longevity! if you’ve been thinking about getting a sauna…we have been SO happy with the clearlight sauna and i can not recommend it enough!
