Hey y’all! I’m so excited to share all the details with you today on the weekend I spent in Napa last weekend for the ASICS Vine Body & Sole Half Marathon! I’m going to give you a quick rundown of what we did all weekend and answer the most frequently asked questions I got throughout the weekend (including the supplements I take before every race or long run!)
This was my 3rd half marathon and I can honestly say, it put any other race I’ve ever done to absolute shame. The entire weekend was planned out and included everything from yoga, to wine tasting, a training challenge, to the half marathon. To top it all off, the event was in Napa and everything was absolutely gorgeous.
Friday morning: want it more training challenge + avocado toast bar
ASICS twist tank | ASICS crops | ASICS tennis shoes | Apple watch | Aviator sunglasses
We started the weekend off with a 90 minute workout class led by Anna Keiser who is the founder of AKT in motion. You should definitely check out that website to learn more about that method of working out because this work out KICKED OUR BUTTS! It made the half marathon seem easy in comparison! It was a full body workout that combined cardio and strength training, and stretching. I was motivated to push myself through the workout though, because there was an avocado bar + wine tasting waiting for us after! My version of heaven.
Friday evening: sunset yoga in the vineyards
ASICS tank top and crops (N/A online yet)
After the training challenge & avocado toast bar, we had the majority of the day Friday to do whatever we wanted in Napa! (I will be doing another post on things to do in Napa soon, and share with y’all what Michael and I did!). Friday evening we had a sunset yoga in the vineyards class, and it was one of the most therapeutic yoga classes of my life. It was the perfect amount of stretching before the big race, and being in the middle of a quiet, beautiful vineyard was truly amazing. Of course, the yoga class was followed by more wine tasting!
After yoga, there was a pre-race party with drinks and yummy food to get us pumped up for the race!
Saturday: race-day
ASICS tank top | ASICS hat | ASICS running shorts (LOVE these for running) | ASICS tennis shoes | Apple watch | Wireless headphones
The ASICS half marathon started bright and early Saturday morning. The weather was perfect for running and this was hands down the most beautiful course I have ever run. This ASICS half marathon was actually my personal best race I’ve ever done, and I felt on top of the world about it! We ran 13.1 miles through beautiful wine country and because of the amazing weather and beautiful scenery, time really did fly by. This race was also predominantly women, so to do this race with over 300 other amazing and strong women just felt so empowering, and so fun!
Frequently Asked Questions
A few of you had asked me to link what supplements I take before running (I’ve snapchatted about it a lot, but it’s much easier to just click a link), so here you go! (Side note – I don’t take every one of these products before every single run. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I do a different variation depending on how I’m feeling that day, or how far I’m running)
- 60 minutes before a long run (or any other heavy cardio activity) I take 02 Gold. This supplement is actually gold. It helps facilitate the body’s use of oxygen, helps the body adapt to stress, increases and maintains energy levels and supports muscle building and recovery.
- 30 minutes before a long run (or any other heavy cardio activity) I take Arginine Extreme – it’s a powder that you add to your water and it helps enhance your strength and stamina, and supports nutrient delivery to your muscles…along with alot of other things! This drink actually makes me feel like superwoman.
- During my run (about an hour into the run) I take rehydrate gel, and this has been a total game changer for me. Without going into too much detail, I have/had MAJOR stomach issues during long runs. So I could never take anything like goo (or eat anything really) during my long runs, even though you’re supposed to replenish your carbs about every 50 minutes. Rehydrate gel is literally the only product I’ve tried that doesn’t mess up my stomach, it rehydrates me during the run, and gives me an amazing boost of energy
(Other products that I take on a regular basis – whether it’s for running, cycling, or weight training are Spark and Catalyst. These are hands down my two favorite Advocare products)
A few of you had also expressed interest in the ASICS half marathon and asked if anyone could sign up. The answer is absolutely yes! This event is open to anyone and everyone, and I certainly hope to be back next year, and would love to see some of ya’ll there!
Some of you had also asked about running shoes. I ran this race in the ASICS Gel-Noosa Tri’s and absolutely loved them. I’m a neutral runner (so, I don’t pronate or supinate) and tend to like more light-weight running shoes. These provided the perfect amount of support and were super comfortable.
This ASICS half marathon weekend truly was one of the most beautiful, fun, and empowering weekends of my entire life! Thank you ASICS for putting on such an amazing event and inviting me to be a part of it!
