Spring is here and love is in the air! I don’t know about you but I feel like almost every other week I hear about another engagement, or about a friend planning a wedding, and everything in between. I’ve actually gotten a few e-mails recently asking for advice about what to wear for engagement pictures, so I decided to do a few posts on that! (Also, Mary was our wedding photographer and recently asked if she could shoot a few pics of us for a new business avenue she’s exploring. So, perfect timing!)
I’m sure every photographer does engagement pictures differently, but when we did engagement pictures with our photographer Mary, she shot 3 outfits for us. I recommend doing a mix of dressy and casual to give yourself a variety to choose from, and this look I’m sharing with ya’ll today would be “casual” in my book.
Some tips when deciding what to wear for engagement pictures:
- Stay away from “matchy-matchy”, and strive more for coordination. You can achieve this by making the color palette your main focus. I knew for this shoot with Mary we wanted light/natural/pastel colors, so I went with a blush pink dress, and then for Michael’s outfit…I thought of what color looks good with blush, and what color looks good on him. Light grey was perfect! I also think this little white dress would be perfect for engagement photos or any bridal showers! Here’s another post I did with Michael all about our 4 year anniversary – I love how our outfits coordinate here too! Here are some more spring dresses I’m loving lately, too!
- Don’t overthink it. If you have a dress hanging in your closet that you feel like a bombshell in, wear that dress for your engagement pictures, and make sure your man’s outfit coordinates (by keeping it in a similar color palette). You don’t need to come up with a crazy creative outfit or something super outside of the box…just wear what you feel your absolute best and most confident in (and same for your man). Or if you’re needing some makeup tips, I shared a post about my current makeup routine with all my favorite products too!
- Keep it simple. Don’t get me wrong – I love dressing on trend just as much as the next girl! But when it comes to engagement pictures, you should probably stay away from super trendy. You will have these pictures the rest of your life and probably don’t want to look back and think “WHAT WAS I THINKING with that fringe poncho?!”
Stay tuned for part 2 on what to wear for engagement pictures! I’ll be sharing a “dressy” look option. Have a wonderful Monday!
