wellness wednesday: answering all apple watch questions!
Two blog posts in a row where I am answering my two most frequently asked questions haha! Last week I announced a new series we are starting in 2019 called “wellness wednesday” all about health and wellness each week! For my first WW post, I want to answer ALL of your questions about my apple watch + share why I’m so obsessed with it!
I have the apple watch series 4, 40mm gold aluminum case, and a few different bands I wear with it (more on that in a second). I do not have the watch with cellular because I’ve never needed that! I’ve had every series of apple watch though (except for series 1), so I’ve been wearing the apple watch for years now. In these photos i’m wearing the indigo sport band that I got at the apple store! Any watch band you see me wearing on instagram was purchased at the apple store. I have two sports bands (indigo and pink sand), and then I have the Hermes leather strap which I love, for when I’m not in workout clothes!
There are so many reasons why I love my apple watch! First, the obvious reason, for fitness purposes. I track my runs on this watch (both indoor and outdoor), HIIT workouts, Flywheel classes, strength training, and everything in between. The apple watch tracks your heart rate during workouts, calories burned, time, distance, and more. You can also “follow” your friends who have an apple watch so it will share your activity with them and visa versa which I think is fun!
I just use the built in activity tracker on the apple watch – I don’t use any other fitness tracking apps. Just the one that comes with the watch! With the activity tracker that’s built into the watch, you can select activities like yoga, swimming, hiking, indoor run, outdoor run, strength training, and pretty much anything else you can think of.
One of the reasons why I love the apple watch is because of the 3 activity rings that show up on your watch face (see mine pictured below). The 3 rings represent your move goal, stand goal, and exercise goal. I always LOVE when I close all 3 of my rings for the day, so these rings really motivate me to get a workout in so I can close all of my rings! I’ve had to learn to be okay with not closing all 3 rings on my “rest days” (days I don’t workout) because I’ve gotten to be pretty OCD about closing my rings everyday haha. But, even on “rest days”, having my apple watch motivates me to still go for a 30 minute walk or try to do something to just move my body instead of sitting at a desk all day!
I also love my apple watch because of the notifications on here / how well it works with my iPhone. I get texts on my watch and reply with them via voice text ALL the time! It’s so nice for when my phone is on the other side of the room or in my purse and I don’t want to pull it out, because I can read & reply the text right there on my watch.
I also get other notifications on my watch – e-mails, weather notifications, when someone is at our front door (because we have the Ring doorbell), when I’m getting a phone call, when I have a reminder go off (ie: pay visa credit card today), and several others! You can totally customize that in your settings to get as many or as few notifications as you want! I love it though because I don’t feel like I have to have my phone with me 24/7 because I know I can see anything I need to see on my watch.
I’ve had people ask me why I have this watch vs the Fitbit or another activity tracker. TBH this is all I’ve ever really used so I can’t speak to other activity trackers. But, I love how well the apple watch syncs up with my iPhone, Macbook, and all my other apple products. I like having things on one system! I also just like how the apple watch looks more than any other activity tracker.
I think that covers the majority of the questions I get about my watch! If you’re needing a little extra fitness motivation this year, I highly recommend you look into purchasing one! It’s really encouraged me to live a more active lifestyle (bc gotta get those rings lol) and I also love being able to follow my friends / family activity too!
