best beauty buys from 2017

Last week I shared my best purchases of 2017 with y’all – TONS of faves, mostly fashion purchases! Today I want to share my best beauty buys from 2017 with y’all – because there have been some good ones this year!

2017 has been a major skincare for me – it’s the first year I really found a skincare routine that works for me, and products I am obsessed with. There are tons of skincare products I could rave about, but I’ll try and narrow it down to my very favorite items.

I started using this Tula Kefir cleansing oil about 6 months ago and LOVE it. I typically use it before I wash my face, to get all of my makeup off! It’s so hydrating and makes my skin feel amazing, and it’s super effective in dissolving makeup. (You can get 20% off anything from the Tula site with the code LAURENSIMS).

I am obsessed with this Tata Harper cleanser – it’s gentle enough to use morning and night, but the exfoliating aspect of it makes it super effective in clearing / preventing breakouts, and giving your skin an overall glow. This is possibly my favorite cleanser I’ve ever used.

Y’all have already heard me talk about this hundreds of times, but my obsession with this Sunday Riley luna night oil is real! I feel like I wake up in the mornings with new skin! It has retinol in it but it doesn’t dry your skin out. This helps prevent / decrease signs of aging and gives your skin an overall even texture.

Equally as amazing as the luna oil, is Sunday Riley good genes. The combination of these two products is gold. It’s an all in one lactic acid treatment, which I use every night after the luna oil. This treatment helps with so many skin problems – plumps up fine lines, prevents breakouts, evens your skin texture.

If I could only pick one other best purchase for skincare this year, it would be this Sunday Riley autocorrect eye cream. It decreases fine lines around the eyes, and also has caffeine in it which will help with any puffiness. One of my favorite eye creams I’ve ever used! I use this morning and night.

Okay, I’m going to force myself to move on from skincare or I could legit share 15 more products with y’all haha.

I did an insanely long blog post last week (here) all about my favorite hair products, tools, and supplements, so definitely check that out. If I had to narrow down my top 3 products that I bought this year though…it would for sure be Vital Proteins collagen peptides (see my post about collagen here. This has made my hair so healthy and strong!), the oribe pre-shampoo treatment (so nourishing and healing for damaged hair), and this oribe purple shampoo and conditioner. I have subtle highlights in my hair, and they tend to get pretty brassy without a good purple shampoo!

I’m seriously obsessed with hair products though, so make sure you check out the post I linked above for all of my faves.

I feel like I have found SO many new makeup faves this year! First, I’m obsessed with this NARS Powermatte liquid lipstick. I finally found a liquid lipstick that doesn’t dry your lips out or look flakey after an hour or so! It seriously will stay on for HOURS without making your lips look all cracked (#notcute). My favorite colors are ‘american woman’ and ‘save the queen’.

I know I’m late to the party on this one, but I finally bought the Anastasia brow wiz pencil and holy cow…I now understand what all the hype is about! This pencil makes filling in your brows SO easy, and I think it makes such a difference in how my makeup looks overall! I also got the clear brow gel to put on top and like that a lot too!

Another thing I finally tried after hearing so much hype: this Laura Mercier setting powder. TBH I always thought ‘setting powder’ was a hoax haha, like what does it actually do? This powder makes all the difference though in how my makeup looks! It gives you a really pretty matte finish, and makes all of your makeup blend perfectly. This powder also makes your makeup last so much longer!

I also started using this it! cosmetics CC cream and it’s for sure become a regular for me! I ALWAYS bring this on vacation – it’s especially amazing on beach trips when you don’t want a super heavy foundation. This stuff is hydrating, has SPF in it, AND has amazing coverage all at the same time! Even when I’m home, there are tons of times where I’ll just wear this instead of foundation.

Other beauty products I’ve tried and love

I’m obsessed with anything by L’Occitane. I use this almond milk concentrate every time I get out of the shower. It is SO hydrating without make your skin feel sticky. And I love the smell! I also use this almond shower oil everytime I shower and it makes my skin look and feel amazing.

I did a post (here) recently all about my favorite self tanner so I won’t go into too much detail, but this year I finally got the St. Tropez express self tanner and it’s amazing! Most self tanners I really couldn’t tell a difference in my color, but this stuff seriously makes you look like you just got back from the beach, or got a really good spray tan!

This year I started using this glopro microneedling tool about 3 nights per week and have been able to tell a huge difference in my skin. There are TONS of benefits to microneedling. It stimulates your cells, causing the cells to turnover quicker + produce more collagen which helps with anti-aging. It also allows for your night serums to really get deeper into your skin, which causes the serums to be more effective. I got one for my mom as well and her skin has never looked better!

Did you try any new beauty products in 2017 that you fell in love with?! Let us know in the comments below! Thanks for reading!
